Chris Moore, Senior Sustainability Consultant
Chris Moore has over 29 years of experience in sustainability and environmental compliance issues and serves as a Senior Sustainability Consultant for JBE’s sustainability practice.
Chris earned both a Bachelors’ degree in chemical engineering and a Masters’ degree in environmental engineering from the University of Tennessee. He has worked in industry as a sustainability manager focused on development and implementation of sustainability strategy. These efforts ranged from helping to implement sustainability vision to data gathering and external reporting. He led efforts to complete life cycle assessments (LCAs) for various industrial products and to utilize LCA data to demonstrate product value. Chris was responsible for overseeing Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emission estimates as well as compiling data to determine the company’s environmental footprint. He led efforts to complete external sustainability reporting including Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). He was involved in multiple projects to improve the sustainability of products produced as well as efforts to improve overall energy and resource efficiency.
He also has extensive environmental compliance management experience working on compliance issues focused predominantly on air quality issues. As a consultant, Chris worked for many clients to develop implementation strategies for Clean Air Act rules and regulations including development of comprehensive air emissions inventories and air data management systems. He helped companies obtain both new source review (NSR) construction permits to enable growth and Title V operating permits. Chris was also involved in reviewing and establishing programs to comply with USEPA national emission standards for hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) including developing required plans and monitoring systems. He has also helped to implement and audit ISO 14001 environmental management systems and has extensive environmental auditing experience.
Chris has significant environmental and public affairs experience through his involvement at the local, state, regional, and national level on various environmental issues. He served on the Board of the Directors of the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce providing leadership on environmental and energy issues as well as serving on the State of Tennessee Air Pollution Control Board. Additionally, Chris spent significant time collaborating with non-governmental organizations including environmental activist groups seeking to build consensus on environmental and sustainability issues.
He has worked in the sustainability and compliance space for many industry sectors including pulp and paper, aerospace, aluminum (mining, smelting, and fabrication), titanium, glass, automotive, and industrials. Additionally, Chris has significant experience working for Department of Defense and Department of Energy facilities.
Chris lives in Knoxville, Tennessee with his wonderful wife and three incredible children. When he is away from the office, he enjoys watching movies with his kids, spending time in the outdoors hiking and fly fishing, distance running, reading, and traveling. He also spends significant time serving his church and going on mission trips to Europe and beyond.
