Where this year's footprint comes from
Four Scope 3 categories apply to JBE. Purchased goods & services and business travel are neck-and-neck as the two largest sources, with home-office energy close behind.

Public Target · Business Travel
Cut business-travel emissions intensity 15% by 2028, vs. our CY2023 baseline
Tracked in metric tons CO2e per full-time employee, so the target holds regardless of firm size. Two years in, we're running ahead of the pace we need.

How We Calculate This
Built on the GHG Protocol
Our inventory follows the GHG Protocol Corporate and Scope 3 Standards, reassessed every year for applicability.
Scope 1 & 2
Not applicable
We have no facilities, fleet vehicles, or purchased electricity to report at a company level. Per GHG Protocol guidance, the energy our team uses while working from home is instead counted under Scope 3, Category 7.
Scope 3 · Categories 1, 2 & 7
Spend- and distance-based methods
Purchased goods, capital goods, and home-office energy are calculated from expense and hours-worked data using DEFRA, Open CEDA, and US EPA (EEIO) emission factors.
Scope 3 · Category 6
Business travel, mode by mode
Flights, lodging, and rental cars use a spend-based method; personal vehicle mileage uses a distance-based method — each mapped to the most current DEFRA and Open CEDA factors.
Waste (Scope 3, Category 5) isn't yet quantified: our recycling program hasn't processed any retired laptops in CY2023–25, so there's nothing to report yet. We'll begin measuring this once the first batch is recycled.
