Key Project Experience:

Climate Strategy and GHG Accounting

• Cross-Sector Scope 1, 2, and 3 Inventories - Develops and annually updates corporate GHG inventories under the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064 for technology, medical device, consumer goods, oil and gas, and restaurant companies. Scope 3 drivers differ sharply across these sectors, so each inventory directs data collection and methodology choices to the categories that drive that client’s footprint.

• Scope 3 Methodology Problem-Solving - Resolves complex value chain accounting issues. Identified EEIO emission factor inflation errors that exceeded assurance materiality thresholds, and developed a transportation emissions treatment framework that distinguishes GHG Protocol-required, optional, and SBTi-mandated methodologies. 

• Climate Strategy for Nationwide Restaurant Chain - Led multi-year sustainability support for the largest restaurant chain in the U.S., including data management, Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions calculations, carbon hot-spot analysis across agricultural commodities (beef, dairy, poultry, soy, and palm), deforestation risk screening, carbon reduction roadmapping, supplier engagement framing, and public disclosure support.

• Carbon Pricing and Abatement Analysis - Built a scenario analysis tool applying an internal cost of carbon to identify the price at which emission control options become cost-effective, including marginal abatement cost curve (MACC) evaluation for five refineries globally.

Supply Chain Risk and Supplier Engagement

• Supplier Risk Screening Framework - Designed a tier 1/tier 2 supplier risk framework and screening tool for a pharmaceutical company, using purchased spend data to flag human rights (including modern slavery), environmental, and governance risks and to support compliance with emerging global supply chain regulations.

• Human Rights Risk Screening - Improved human rights risk screening for a biotech manufacturer’s supply chain based on vendor country location, strengthening the company’s performance in sustainability ratings programs.

• Deforestation Risk Screening - Performed screening-level identification of likely deforestation risk for the largest U.S. restaurant chain, based on the country of origin of key agricultural commodities including beef, soy, and palm.

• Supplier Engagement Strategy - Frames supplier engagement approaches based on screening and inventory results, focusing outreach on the suppliers and commodities with the greatest emissions and risk exposure.

Sustainability Program Development and Disclosure

• Sustainability Program Development - Designs sustainability programs tailored to each client’s business priorities and stakeholder expectations, including customer engagement strategies to respond to customer sustainability requests and requirements.

• CDP and EcoVadis Disclosures - Prepares, reviews, and corrects submissions to CDP Climate, CDP Water, and EcoVadis, building the supporting data infrastructure and training materials so clients can sustain performance year over year.

• Sustainability Report Data Review - Reviews sustainability report content and underlying data for alignment with GRI, SASB, and IFRS S2, confirming that disclosed metrics are accurate, traceable to source records, and defensible.

• TCFD/ISSB and California SB 261 - Works with client stakeholders to develop public disclosures covering governance, board oversight, climate risk and materiality, and targets and metrics, including use of the TCFD/ISSB framework to support SB 261 compliance.

• Public Emissions Inventory for Petroleum Refining and Petrochemical Trade Organization - Prepared a criteria pollutant and GHG emissions inventory for operating North American refineries, compiled at the facility level and published in an annual report to members, federal government stakeholders including Senate committee members, and the public.

Assurance and Verification

• Third-Party GHG Assurance - Directs ISO 14064-3 and ISAE 3000/ISSA 5000 assurance engagements and developed the engagement toolkits, working paper templates, and testing procedures now used across JBE.

Regulatory Affairs

• Multi-Year Support for Oil and Gas Regulations - Serves as strategic advisor and comment-letter author for a U.S. oil and gas trade association on Clean Air Act rulemakings (NSPS OOOOb/OOOOc, NESHAP Subparts HH/HHH, GHGRP), with support spanning more than 10 years. Work includes applicability assessments, regulatory summaries, comment development, compliance gap assessments, and compliance plans, with a focus on methane regulation.

• Regulatory Economic Impact Analysis - Estimated the economic impacts of proposed EPA requirements and alternative compliance scenarios, building cost models from EPA technical support documents and regulatory impact analyses to provide quantitative support for advocacy positions.

• Impending Regulatory Risk Management - Supports companies in developing fit-for-purpose strategies for EU CSRD and CBAM obligations, tailored to each organization’s reporting requirements.

Data Systems and Custom Tools

• Enterprise GHG Reporting System - During a full-time secondment to Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, led design and implementation of a custom SAP-based GHG emissions calculation system for EPA GHGRP compliance, built around the data formats actually available from operations.

• Software Selection - Leads stakeholder needs assessments and evaluation of sustainability and compliance software, including documenting data flows and identifying risk created by manual processes.
